Project Time Management: Scheduling Mastery

Overview

Master project scheduling with practical, job-ready skills used by top project managers. Learn how to plan, build, optimize, and control project timelines with confidence.

This course provides a complete guide to project time management, covering activity sequencing, resource estimation, duration planning, and advanced scheduling techniques like Critical Path Method (CPM) and Critical Chain.

You will gain hands-on understanding of network diagrams, float calculations, Gantt charts, and schedule compression techniques such as crashing and fast tracking. Designed for aspiring project managers and PMP/CAPM candidates, this course focuses on real-world application rather than theory.

By the end of this course, you will be able to develop accurate schedules, identify critical activities, optimize timelines, and effectively monitor project performance.

Syllabus 7

  1. Foundations of Project Scheduling 3.5 hours

Learn how to establish a structured scheduling approach by defining schedule management strategies, planning methods, and activity identification techniques.

  2. Activity Sequencing and Dependencies 2.5 hours

Understand how to sequence activities, define dependencies, and build logical relationships using techniques like PDM and network diagrams.

  3. Resource Estimation in Project Scheduling 2.5 hours

Explore how to estimate and allocate resources effectively, ensuring optimal utilization and alignment with project requirements.

  4. Estimating Activity Durations 2 hours

Apply estimation methods such as three-point estimating and reserve analysis to develop accurate activity durations.

  5. Developing the Project Schedule 2 hours

Develop complete project schedules using inputs, tools, and techniques, including Critical Path Method and float analysis.

  6. Advanced Scheduling Calculations 2 hours

Master advanced calculations like ES, EF, LS, LF, and explore network diagrams and Critical Chain Method for optimization.

  7. Schedule Optimization and Control 3.5 hours

Learn to optimize schedules using crashing and fast tracking, and control timelines through monitoring and performance analysis.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Structured courses with graded quizzes, assignments and deadlines you can reset.
  • A shareable certificate from the university or company when you pay.
  • Financial aid is often approved for students in India (apply 15 days before you need it).
  • Covers niche tools that universities don't teach.
  • Self-paced: start any time.
  • A clear syllabus (7 parts) you can see before you start.

Disadvantages

  • Paid after a 7-day free trial (Coursera Plus or per course).
  • Some courses can be audited for free, but graded work and certificates need payment.
  • Many courses are produced quickly from slides and screen recordings; read the reviews first.

Some points apply to every course of this kind; see how we rank.

This course is paid. Here is how to take it for free
