4.752 ratings at Coursera

Overview

Fundamentals of Red Hat OpenShift for Developers is an introduction to deploying applications in the OpenShift ecosystem. This course provides the foundational knowledge to build, run, and manage containerized applications using OpenShift resources. As you embark on this learning journey, you'll explore the world of container orchestration, understand how to deploy applications efficiently, and manage their lifecycle within the OpenShift ecosystem. We start by defining Kubernetes and OpenShift terminology and concepts as well as the advantages of containerized applications. Next, we will demonstrate various application deployment techniques using both the web console and the command line. After learning how to expose applications to external access, we will cover how to effectively manage the application lifecycle using various deployment strategies and dynamic configuration management. Lastly we will cover basic strategies for monitoring application health and troubleshooting deployments. Our goal is to provide you with a solid foundation in OpenShift, ensuring you can leverage its full potential in developing robust, scalable, and reliable applications.

In this module, you will explore the fundamentals of container orchestration and the core features of Red Hat OpenShift. You will identify key OpenShift components such as Pods, Services, Routes, and Image Streams, and learn how to deploy applications using existing container images.

  2. Deploying Applications on OpenShift 1.5 hours

In this module, you will learn how to deploy applications using different OpenShift methods. You will implement Source-to-Image (S2I) to build container images from source code and use Helm charts to manage and simplify application deployments.

  3. Exposing Applications to External Access 30 minutes

In this module, you will learn how to expose applications running on OpenShift to external users. You will explore OpenShift Ingress and understand how traffic is routed securely to your applications.

  4. Deployment Strategies 30 minutes

In this module, you will learn advanced deployment strategies in OpenShift. You will perform A/B deployments to test new features and execute blue-green deployments to reduce downtime and deployment risk.

  5. Configuring Applications 40 minutes

In this module, you will manage application configuration and state in OpenShift. You will use ConfigMaps and Secrets to externalize configuration data and implement persistent storage strategies to support stateful applications.

  6. Application Health and Troubleshooting 50 minutes

In this module, you will learn how to monitor application health and troubleshoot deployment issues in OpenShift. You will configure container health checks using probes and diagnose common deployment errors.

  7. Comprehensive Review 50 minutes
