Java Programming Masterclass

4.920 ratings at Coursera

Overview

Build practical Java programming skills from foundational syntax to complete desktop application development. You’ll begin by setting up the JDK and NetBeans, writing basic programs, handling user input, and applying operators, conditionals, loops, and methods. You’ll then explore object-oriented programming through method overloading and overriding, abstract classes, interfaces, packages, access modifiers, encapsulation, and collections.

As you progress, you’ll work with wrapper classes, Java Math functions, strings, inner classes, exception handling, and file and directory operations. You’ll also create interactive interfaces with Java AWT and Swing, connect applications to relational databases using JDBC, and implement database operations and real-time login authentication.

Designed for aspiring software developers, computer science students, and professionals strengthening their Java expertise, this course combines progressive instruction with hands-on projects. You’ll build an ATM simulation, a Snake game, a JDBC-connected login system, an Attendance Management System, and an Employee Management System with CRUD operations. By the end, you’ll be able to design, develop, test, and organize end-to-end Java desktop applications in NetBeans. Enroll to turn core Java concepts into practical, user-interactive systems through structured, project-based learning.

  • A shareable certificate from the university or company when you pay.
  • Financial aid is often approved for students in India (apply 15 days before you need it).
  • Covers niche tools that universities don't teach.
  • Self-paced: start any time.
  • A clear syllabus (6 parts) you can see before you start.
  • Hands-on: you build or practise, not just watch.

Disadvantages

  • Paid after a 7-day free trial (Coursera Plus or per course).
  • Some courses can be audited for free, but graded work and certificates need payment.
  • Many courses are produced quickly from slides and screen recordings; read the reviews first.

Some points apply to every course of this kind; see how we rank.
